A fantastic hotel. I can only confirm the many positive reviews here. We spent a week here in late April and thoroughly enjoyed it. The rooms (which have been recently renovated) are stylish, the bed is excellent, housekeeping is exceptional and attentive, and the hotel staff in general are always friendly and courteous. Despite its size, the hotel feels very intimate and cozy, and the interior is high-quality and stylish. The buffet (whether for breakfast or at other times of the day) leaves nothing to be desired: every guest gets their money’s worth here. The quality of the food is very good, and the table service is attentive without being intrusive. Definitely a hotel that can be recommended without hesitation. I’m already looking forward to future stays at this great, well-maintained resort with a wonderful view of the coastline.

Un hotel nuevo o renovado con excelentes vistas, piscinas, restaurante y spa. La mejor vista está en el otro hotel de la misma cadena (hay un camino interno de 2 min que los conecta). No es un hotel de lujo, sino casi un resort mediano, bien mantenido. El precio es elevado en temporada pero está en línea con la zona (Albufeira es más caro siempre). Lo único muy malo: la playa debajo estaba extremadamente sucia (zargaso) y para llegar debes bajar varias escaleras y luego caminar sobre rocas, no es cómodo. Lo mejor es ir a esa misma playa de Falésia pero más al medio (en carro o Uber unos 10 min). Este hotel es más nuevo que el otro PortoBay. Tiene sauna e hidromasaje muy bueno (8am a 8pm) muy bien mantenido. Una piscina y zona solo para adultos en el primer piso. Excelente desayuno buffet hasta las 10:30 y un muy buen restaurante para la noche (Flor de Sal). Para el atardecer tienen un deck con vistas a Olhos de Água con música y tragos. Un toque muy elegante fue que nos enviaran un espumante por el cumpleaños de mi esposa sin pedirlo y una tarjeta (lo detectaron quizás por el pasaporte). El estacionamiento gratis en la calle fue suficiente, estaba casi lleno pero siempre encontraba lugar.

Nice hotel but not perfect. The rooms are quite big and comfortable, the bed was very comfortable. The staff is wonderful, really helpful and informative. They were always present to help with anything that might come up. Unfortunately, the AC was not working when we arrived and it took some hours until someone was there to fix it. In a hotel like this I would expect someone to check the room before you let the guests in. After a few days the hygienic bags were not restocked as well as the paper towels which was also a bit unfortunate. One time all towels got removed from the room but not restocked. The breakfast in general was good but the coffee from the coffee machine tasted horrible. For example the cappuccino tasted extremely sweet und bitter at the same time. We especially liked the many fresh fruits and the freshly made omlettes. The dinner buffet was good and tasty. The snacks and food options for lunch were okay butsometimes bland and very expensive for what you get. The location of the hotel is perfect to relax and recover. Quiet at the beach with a near access through beautiful nature along the cliffs. Overall we enjoyed our stay and were sad to leave the hotel but there is still room for improvement.

Overall it was a pleasant stay. The hotel aesthetic was gorgeous and felt luxurious. The staff were lovely & the spa was also great. My pregnancy massage was incredible and much needed. The tailormade facial was average though I'm not sure what was "tailormade" about it as the therapist didn't ask me questions about my skin, rather I told her I am pregnant so don't want any acids or retinol, but still, I do recommend the spa and Carla & Louise were lovely. The downsides: the bed was not great, so firm and I had such a difficult sleep most nights. The downstairs sunloungers were very uncomfortable, upstairs much better. You're only provided one free bottle of water at check-in which is quite cheap in my opinion and something I've never experienced before. It was disappointing they were expecting guests to pay for bottled water at the bar...€4.80 euros for a big bottle of still water, double the price from the nearest market. We only had our room made up once and they gave us only 1 coffee creamer pot for 2 people...again...cheap. We had to call for extra. Maintaining consistency in room cleans & providing water every day would really cement the resort as a 4*...right now it feels 3.5, nearly 4!

Overall we enjoyed our stay at PortoBay Blue Ocean but this is not a luxury hotel. 3/5 stars as for the price it is not a premium experience. The staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms and facilities were clean. Importantly we slept well and breakfast was decent. We spent most of our time by the pool or outside of the hotel so not much else to say. Rooms - You can hear everything happening upstairs, furniture being loudly dragged around and moved every morning by cleaners (not their fault!), not ideal! This has the potential to ruin your stay if you have terrible upstairs room guests. AC in rooms works well. The fan did not work. The plumbing of this building is bizarre, shower randomly goes cold, shower tray doesn’t drain, shower door doesn’t fully shut, toilet randomly goes off. Some of these are simple fixes that premium hotels would resolve quickly. Mini Fridge - it barely works, keeps your drinks only lukewarm in the rooms. Frustrating! Layout - the layout of the hotel is terrible. We had a room where we could see pool in front of us and yet it's a 5mins walk! I ended up resorting to climbing over our ground floor balcony. Avoid rooms opposite the new beach bar. Beach - this is not a beach side resort. You have to leave the hotel and make a long winding walk down manv stairs to get to the beach. They should make this much clearer - it's a pleasant beach nonetheless. Pool - Nice clean pools. Even during a quieter time in May it was difficult to get a sunbed. Parking - good availability of free parking.

We arrived at PortoBay Blue Ocean for our anniversary to chocolate-covered strawberries and bubbly — a thoughtful touch and wonderful start. Unfortunately, things slowly went downhill. The good: beautiful grounds, a great adults-only pool, fantastic sunset bar with live music, and delicious poke bowls at Lima Café. And Gabriela at reception is EXCEPTIONAL. We mentioned to her our early hiking excursion, and she immediately arranged a rental car that could be delivered/picked up directly at the hotel, recommended places to explore, and proactively arranged breakfast boxes because she realized we’d miss breakfast. 15/10!! That is anticipatory hospitality. If Gabriela isn’t a manager, promote her and give her a raise! She should be helping train the broader staff. The entire hotel would benefit from her service mindset. Unfortunately, service elsewhere was wildly inconsistent: LATE CHECKOUT: My husband asked the front desk and offered to pay extra because of an evening flight and were simply told they don’t do it. No suggestion to store our luggage, enjoy the pool, or use the locker-room showers. When we came down to fully check out a different receptionist told us they have a “farewell room” where guests can shower/change and enjoy the pool after checkout — a great concept (why didn’t the first guy say this?!?) But there aren’t even hairdryers or any plug in there or in the spa/locker rooms!?. This sums up a lot of the hotel: A for effort, C for execution. The little details get missed. ROOM SERVICE: I was repeatedly transferred between reception and unanswered room service until I gave up and walked to get takeaway. You also need the hotel app just to view the menu. WATER: We asked for another large bottle like the one provided at check-in and had to keep asking to figure out where we could purchase one (the bar!) BREAKFAST: Large and decent, but nearly identical daily and chaotic. Getting coffee required flagging someone down, and staff seemed overwhelmed. EARLY DEPARTURES: Breakfast boxes were A for effort, D for execution — basically white bread and cheese — and there’s NO early-morning COFFEE or takeaway cups?! Yet another staff/receptionist let me into the breakfast room early, but the espresso machines weren’t stocked with beans. If you have an early departure/excursion, you won’t get coffee. ROOMS: No iron/ironing board in ANY ROOM?! We were also repeatedly woken around 8 a.m. by furniture dragging across the floor above us — a problem I saw mentioned in other reviews. BEACH ACCESS: This was my biggest disappointment. Do not book expecting a true beachfront resort. You have to leave the hotel grounds, cross a parking area, walk through the neighboring sister resort, then take the boardwalk and stairs to the beach — roughly ~10-15 minutes. The beach is beautiful, but there are no dedicated hotel loungers, umbrellas, beach service, or reserved guest area. It’s fully public. If genuine walk-out beach access matters to you, this isn’t the hotel for you — which is sad because that’s how they advertise it. Definite bait and switch. I swear we booked an adults-only sea-view room but barely had a sliver of sea view. Not a major issue since we spent our days exploring or at the adults-only pool, but worth knowing before paying extra. Sadly, the service experience was lackluster. At this price point, the beachside positioning, basic amenities, and inconsistent service simply didn’t match the price. I can see this hotel working well for families with young children. There were kids everywhere — including running through the buffet and around the property — and it clearly caters to families. For a couple without children looking for an elevated, relaxing Algarve resort, I’d choose somewhere else. PortoBay Blue Ocean has a beautiful setting, but for the price, beautiful grounds aren’t enough. The experience needs to match the “luxury” promise — and for us, it didn’t. And management: give Gabriela a raise and a promotion. She gets it. 👏
