Andrew Gunter4/5 · 2026-06Savoy Palace is a beautiful hotel with stunning facilities, attentive staff, and excellent housekeeping. Our room was impeccably cleaned each day and always looked wonderful when we returned. The property itself is elegant and well maintained, and the staff were consistently accommodating throughout our stay. There were a few minor issues that prevented this from being a perfect experience. One of the bathrooms near the outdoor pool had a persistent unpleasant odor during our stay, and on more than one occasion there were no paper towels available for guests to dry their hands. Also, I would have appreciated longer pool hours, as the outdoor pool closed at 7 PM and the indoor pool at 8 PM. Given the resort atmosphere and the long daylight hours during our visit, extending pool access later into the evening would have enhanced the guest experience. My larger criticism is that, despite the luxury setting, there were moments when my friend and I felt as though we were walking on eggshells. For example, one evening at the indoor pool, I went to a nearby bar and politely asked for a cup of ice. Rather than simply providing it, I was questioned about what it was for, where I was taking it, and whether I had first gone to the pool bar. While I was ultimately given the ice, the interaction felt unnecessarily restrictive and left me feeling as though I was asking for something inappropriate. Small interactions like this can affect the overall guest experience, particularly at a hotel of this caliber. Overall, I had a very enjoyable stay and would happily return. The hotel excels in many areas, but a slightly more relaxed and guest-focused approach in certain service interactions would make the experience even better.
Suzanne Grinberg3/5 · 2026-07I wish I could give Savoy Palace a higher rating because the hotel itself is undeniably beautiful, but unfortunately several disappointing experiences would keep me from returning. The property is stunning, and the rooms are elegant. It appears that nearly every room enjoys a sea view. We booked through American Express Fine Hotels + Resorts, received a lovely upgrade, and were welcomed with a generous amenity, which made for an excellent first impression. We had lunch at the pool bar restaurant. While the service was warm and attentive, the food was mediocre at best. I would recommend dining elsewhere, as the quality of the cuisine simply did not match the standard of a five-star resort. We also asked the concierge to make a reservation at a restaurant off property. We received an email confirming that the reservation had been made, but when we arrived, the restaurant had no record of it. Fortunately, they graciously accommodated us anyway, but this was an unnecessary inconvenience. Our final evening was, unfortunately, where the hotel truly fell short. We went to the hotel’s sports bar to watch a World Cup match. We arrived early, were seated by staff, and ordered drinks. At no point were we told that we had been seated in the designated cigar lounge. Had the staff informed us that this was a smoking room, we—and I believe many of the other guests already seated there—would have chosen to sit elsewhere. There were approximately thirty guests comfortably watching the match when a family of four arrived. They began rearranging furniture and closed the doors to the room. When I politely asked if the door could remain open because the room had become quite stuffy, they replied that they intended to smoke and therefore needed the doors closed. Several guests immediately expressed that they were uncomfortable with smoking. One older gentleman even left the room to find a manager because no hotel staff were present. Despite this, no one from hotel management ever came to the room, and there was absolutely no attempt to intervene or de-escalate the situation. Despite multiple guests objecting, the family began smoking. When another guest and I voiced our concerns, the family’s daughter—who appeared to be around twenty years old—became extraordinarily aggressive. My husband and I speak Spanish, and she loudly screamed profanities and directed abusive comments toward us. Among other insulting remarks, she told us to “go back to the United States so ICE can take care of you.” As her behavior became increasingly volatile, I realized there was no one from the hotel coming to help. I felt completely abandoned by the staff and genuinely feared for my physical safety. Her behavior was so unhinged and unpredictable that I had no idea what she might do next. Rather than risk the confrontation escalating further, my husband and I left the room ourselves. Only after leaving did I seek out a manager to report what had happened. At that point, the only solution offered was to move us to another location outside to watch the match. While I appreciated the gesture, it did nothing to address the fact that hotel staff had completely failed to intervene while a guest was verbally abusing others and creating an intimidating, hostile environment. At no point during the incident did anyone from the hotel step in to protect guests or attempt to restore order. Luxury hospitality is measured not only by beautiful surroundings but also by professionalism, organization, and, most importantly, guest safety. Savoy Palace is a beautiful property with many strengths, but the repeated service failures culminating in the complete lack of response during a serious guest confrontation overshadowed everything else. I left deeply disappointed and, more importantly, feeling unsafe. For that reason, I cannot recommend this hotel to friends and family, and I would not choose to stay here again.
Gonçalo Santos (HibridO)5/5 · 2026-07One of the best hotels in the world. The staff is kind and always available to help. The kids club is the first where my kid actually wants to go. The restaurants are amazing, the rooms are confortable, clean and luxurious. The view is breath taking and the location amazing where you are at walking distance from Funchal old town center. I came in July and never felt in a confusion. There are no lines for breakfast, beds always available by the pool. Everything is just amazing. Thanks you to all the staff for making my family experience truly special.
Brendan Newman4/5 · 2026-06If I could give this 4.5 stars, I would. We stayed on the side with some extra perks with pool, entrance, breakfast etc... I will say the service was an A+ on "that side". Great service, and everyone was amazing to work with. Whoever oversees that area of the hotel is awesome, and does a great job. The service in the other areas of the hotel was pretty average for such a beautiful property. I'm not a difficult person, but I was surprised the lack of service at the main pool and restaurant. I'm not trying to be challenging, and really enjoyed the report. It was almost as there were 2 different GM's. One of them runs a great operation. The other side of the business needs some attention. That said, we still enjoyed the resort! Location is awesome as you can walk to restaurants, etc... I would go back there with the hopes that the service improves in the other areas of the hotel. Thanks for having us!
Teebz loves to travel5/5 · 2026-09Beautiful hotel, very busy, location is central food and drinks are expensive and there are many restaurants, coffee shops and bars nearby. The room is huge and the balcony overlooks the pool area which is gorgeous. Towels are provided at the pool.
