Thank you SAKALA team! Our two bed room pool villa was spotless, spacious, beautifully decorated with an incredibly comfortable bed and a great view. Thank you to Ira and Lisma at reception for providing exceptional customer service and prompt response to our enquiries. The staff were attentive, welcoming and accommodating. They went out of their way to ensure that we were comfortable. Nothing was too much trouble. Thank You to Rini, Kaca and Gita for providing superior customer service at breakfast. Breakfast buffet was delicious with a huge variety of options. I will definitely recommend SAKALA Spa! Our experience was excellent and we would come back. Massage therapist Prima and Sinta was friendly and professional. The atmosphere, cleanliness and quality of the spa was professional and relaxing.

Avoid this hotel, severe food‑poisoning incident with zero accountability My family of five dined at the hotel’s Mediterranean BBQ dinner on the evening of 8th August. Shortly after returning to our room, two of my daughters developed acute gastroenteritis symptoms starting in the early hours: persistent vomiting and diarrhoea. One suffered over seven to eight episodes of diarrhoea, while the other vomited directly onto the bed. Our in‑room telephone was broken, so we walked to the front desk at 6:30 a.m. for urgent help. A doctor and nurse were arranged, who administered injections and IV treatment on‑site. We were charged an extremely high medical fee for this service. Despite two family members falling ill immediately after eating the hotel‑served buffet dinner — a strong indicator of food‑borne illness — the hotel refused to take any responsibility. To make matters worse, while my daughters were still receiving intravenous drips and recovering from violent sickness, the hotel only offered a one‑hour late check‑out. There was no genuine concern for our health, no apology, no compensation, and no proper follow‑up response from management afterwards. We have stayed across countless luxury, mid‑range and budget properties worldwide, and we have never encountered such a disappointing, unaccountable experience. Do not risk your family’s health staying here. ================================================ Reply to The Sakala Resort Bali official response This resort’s reply misrepresents key facts. Different immune systems mean only some diners in one group can get sick from contaminated food. Zero other formal complaints ≠ zero other unwell guests. Post‑incident lab tests cannot guarantee food safety on the night we dined. During our children’s medical emergency, management pushed bureaucratic complaint forms instead of gathering facts in‑room. I refused the form, not factual questioning. Mentioning public reviews was not a threat — it was my right after the hotel refused fair resolution. My compensation requests came from real harm to my daughters. While my daughter was on IV drip, we only got one‑hour free late checkout. Their alternative‑room offer still included extra late‑checkout charges. They arranged doctors in our crisis but gave no clear advance warning of the exorbitant 10 M IDR medical bill, which is 3 times of the local monthly salary. We seldom leave negative feedback. This hotel prioritises denial and procedural defence over compassion for sick minors. Please read both accounts before booking.

We booked The Sakala because it was advertised as a five-star resort, and this holiday was a special treat for our family. We all work hard throughout the year, so this was an opportunity to relax and spend quality time together. Unfortunately, our experience fell well short of what was promised and expected from a five-star property. From check-in, things didn’t get off to a good start. We were initially allocated a room that wasn’t ready and, when we were finally able to enter, it hadn’t been properly cleaned or fully equipped. We were then moved to another room, which also wasn’t cleaned to an acceptable standard, with smear marks all over the glass and a door that wouldn’t close properly. To the resort’s credit, the maintenance team attended to the door promptly. The biggest issue by far was the constant construction noise from the neighbouring development. There were multiple jackhammers and excavators operating throughout the day for the duration of our stay. The noise was relentless and completely overshadowed what was supposed to be a relaxing holiday. We couldn’t enjoy sitting by the pool, relaxing on the balcony or even resting in our room without the constant sound of heavy machinery. It genuinely had a significant impact on our stay and turned what should have been a peaceful family holiday into a frustrating experience. What is most disappointing is that this major disruption was never communicated before our arrival. Had we been informed that a large-scale construction project was taking place immediately next door, we would have made a different decision about where to stay. Guests deserve to be given that information upfront so they can make an informed choice. Communication throughout our stay was consistently poor. We had booked a two-bedroom package that included spa vouchers, yet they weren’t provided until two days later after we received a phone call at 8:30 pm asking us to collect them. There was very little proactive communication, and we were often left having to ask questions rather than being provided with clear information. The beds were also extremely firm and uncomfortable, making it difficult to get a good night’s sleep. Combined with the constant construction noise, it meant there was very little opportunity to properly rest. By the end of the holiday, we felt anything but refreshed. The food was average and the overall level of service didn’t reflect what you would expect from a five-star resort. I do want to acknowledge that the staff we dealt with were polite and courteous. My feedback is directed at the management team, as these issues are the result of management decisions, communication and operational standards rather than the efforts of the frontline staff. At checkout, I had to request a copy of my account to review the charges, rather than it being offered as part of the standard checkout process. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience and certainly not the relaxing five-star holiday we had planned and paid for. There are many excellent resorts in Nusa Dua that genuinely deliver on their five-star promise. Unfortunately, The Sakala did not. I would not stay here again, and I strongly encourage management to be transparent with future guests about the significant neighbouring construction and to improve communication, housekeeping and overall guest experience. Guests deserve to know exactly what they’re booking so they can make an informed decision.

We had a lovely time at The Sakala Resort. Worth staying there but room for improvement. Good: - service - staff attentiveness - overall cleanliness - good sized rooms - breakfast - good array of activities for families and kids Bad: - the swimming pools need better maintenance - the kids pool slide needs to be moved to a better area for parents to see - the location isn’t great, need a taxi to get anywhere - the beach area isn’t very appealing especially with all the fumes from the water vehicles - weak wifi throughout

My stay at Sakala Resort was a very positive experience overall. The resort itself is beautiful and thoughtfully laid out across both sides of the road. On one side you’ll find the reception, accommodation, breakfast area, spa, and a swimming pool with pool-access rooms, a swim-up bar, and a fun waterslide. On the opposite side is the original Sakala Beach Club, where the resort first began before expanding into what it is today. This side is home to the resort’s main swimming pool, another beachfront pool overlooking the ocean, and a relaxed atmosphere that’s perfect for spending the day. One of the highlights of my stay was the food. The resort offers three fantastic restaurants, all serving fresh, high-quality meals. The Japanese restaurant was excellent (if you’re interested in the teppanyaki experience, I’d recommend booking a few days in advance). My absolute favourite, however, was NOOR Indian Cuisine. I can honestly say it was some of the best if not the best Indian food I’ve ever had which is a big statement! Even if you don’t stay at Sakala Resort, NOOR is worth visiting if you love authentic Indian cuisine. Although the resort was a little further from some of the main tourist areas than I had expected, there are plenty of water sports and everything you need nearby. Most importantly, every staff member I encountered was warm, welcoming, and genuinely lovely. I would happily stay here again. Thank you to the entire team for making our stay so enjoyable. x

I rarely leave negative reviews, but unfortunately our stay at Sakala Resort Bali was one of the most disappointing hotel experiences we have ever had. We travelled as a family with two young children and chose this resort expecting the level of service, professionalism and hospitality that a five-star resort should provide. Unfortunately, from the moment we arrived, our holiday became unnecessarily stressful. Our first disappointment began at check-in. Although we arrived at the designated check-in time, our room was not ready. We waited for hours, and even after being offered an alternative room, our second room was not available until around midnight. Spending our first day waiting instead of enjoying our holiday, especially with young children, was extremely frustrating and exhausting. One of my biggest concerns was the safety of the resort. Many of the walkways were incredibly slippery and posed a serious risk to both adults and children. Warning signs had been placed around the resort, but these signs were not a solution. You can see the warning sign and still slip because the surface itself is dangerously slippery. During our stay, both my husband and I slipped. Thankfully our injuries were not more serious, but I genuinely believe someone could easily be badly hurt if this issue is not addressed. The service throughout the resort was another major disappointment. I have stayed in many hotels around the world, and this was honestly one of the slowest services I have ever experienced. Room service was extremely slow, and the service around the pool was no different. Simply trying to order food or drinks often felt like a struggle because it was so difficult to find a staff member or get someone’s attention. We regularly waited an unreasonable amount of time before anyone came to assist us. The rooms themselves were clean, comfortable and well maintained, so I have no complaints about housekeeping or cleanliness. However, we were very disappointed with the room view. Even though we stayed in what was described as a luxury room, there was no garden view or pleasant outlook. The balcony faced directly onto a large concrete wall, and that wall was literally the only thing visible from our room. Instead of feeling like we were staying in a tropical resort, the room felt enclosed and surprisingly prison-like. What disappointed us the most, however, was how management handled our concerns. We raised our complaints while we were still staying at the resort, but nothing meaningful was done when it actually mattered. Only when we were checking out did the General Manager come to speak with us. Rather than resolving the issues during our stay, we were offered complimentary drinks and were encouraged not to leave a negative review. Unfortunately, by that point our holiday had already been affected. The gesture felt more like an attempt to protect the hotel’s online reputation than a genuine effort to care for its guests. True hospitality means listening to guests and resolving problems while they are still staying at the hotel—not trying to change their opinion after the holiday has already been ruined. There are certainly positive aspects to this property, but the poor service, the safety concerns, the disappointing room outlook and the way our complaints were handled completely overshadowed them. Sadly, we left feeling unheard and disappointed. Based on our experience, we would not return to this resort, nor would we recommend it to families expecting the standard of service, safety and professionalism that a five-star resort should deliver.
