Overall, we enjoyed a pleasant stay at Belmar, though several issues make recommending the hotel difficult—especially within a 4-star standard. The good: the rooms offer ample space with a kitchen and all the necessary tools for preparing food. In general, the room was reasonably clean, despite a few exceptions. We stayed in a ground-floor studio that opens onto a small patio and then the family pool. We appreciated the outdoor area. The room features a floor-to-ceiling glass window and door facing the patio. The bad: The room: We noticed several small but clear problems during our visit. Although the room was mostly clean, it clearly shows age and significant wear. Signs had fallen from the wall and were placed back “temporarily”; mold appeared in the bathroom; the toilet seat slipped off the bowl; the coffee maker leaked; and some lights remained unreplaced after burning out. Additionally, I am uncertain whether a guest or cleaning staff caused the noise, but we often heard fairly loud moving and banging relatively early ~08:30. Though temporary and minor, this was the most jarring sound so far in a Portuguese hotel. The service: On our third day, we called to ask for more creamer for the in-room coffee and learned they could not deliver any, explaining it is restocked during cleaning. We had used all the creamer by day 1, yet it was not replenished on day 1 or 2. Because of the kitchenette, we bought drinks to store in the fridge, but the cleaning staff removed some of them despite them not being empty (though they may have been nearly gone). The resort: Belmar looks lovely, particularly the lobby and outdoor spaces, but it shows signs of decline. Some tiles and floorboards are loose or uneven. In the hydrotherapy pool, more than half the features (jets, waterfalls) did not respond when buttons were pressed. The spa shower control panels were rusted, with only a quarter of the functions working. On the ground floor at least, the hallways feel empty, lit only by bright white artificial lighting that lacks a luxurious atmosphere. While we might overlook many of these concerns at a more affordable 3-star hotel, a property of this level should aim higher.

Was a bit disappointed when arriving at Belmar Beach Resort. Upon checking in I felt the front desk staff was not the warmest towards us as guests and a bit monotone. I did notice that the hotel is in a little bit of a need of a refresh specifically at the pool areas. The photos posted online seem to be heavily touched up and make the pools look more luxurious and inviting than they actually are. You have to walk through what seems like a maze just to obtain a towel and must hold on to cards in order to even get a towel which is a little ridiculous. The pool area were a bit dismal and and not well maintained in my opinion. We asked the staff for ice and were charged 8 euro from the restaurant to get it after we just spent almost € 2000 on our room for 4 days. The beaches were beautiful and it was very nice to rent a chair and be able to walk there and have lunch as we were so upset about the lackluster pools.

We stayed in a 2 room beach view apartment that was more spacious than we expected. The rooms were great, but we honestly did not spend much time in it. We took full advantage of pools and the nearby beach (Don Ana) and went into Lagos everyday. The location was great — 8 mins out of Lagos center. We could stay away from the crowd or get there or to the marina very easily. Seemed to be one of the better luxury hotels in Lagos and we had no regrets. Breakfast buffet was not included in our rate but still reasonable at €15 per person — very good value. Highly recommend this hotel. Would stay here again if we ever come back again from United States.

We stayed at the Belmar Spa & Beach Resort in Lagos, Portugal, and overall had a very nice experience. We rented a two-bedroom partial sea view apartment, which was incredibly spacious and provided far more room than we needed for our family of four with two teenagers. The apartment included two nice-sized bedrooms with excellent closet and drawer space, along with a huge kitchen, dining, and seating area that made the stay very comfortable. The deck was lovely, although it only included a dining table and chairs. It would have been nice to have lounge chairs to sit back and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. The pools are very nice as well, though they are not heated. One thing to note is that there is no beach service. While the beach itself is a short walk away, I had incorrectly assumed the resort would offer chairs, umbrellas, or food and beverage service on the beach. The resort does provide towels you can bring down, but there are no lounge chairs or umbrellas available. I also expected downtown Lagos to be within walking distance, but it is not. It’s about a hilly 45-minute walk, although a quick and inexpensive Uber ride gets you easily to downtown Lagos or the marina. There are, however, two great beachside restaurants nearby — António’s and Campimar — which were convenient and enjoyable. The breakfast buffet was absolutely worthwhile and one of the highlights of the stay. There was a wide variety of delicious foods and drinks every morning including fresh orange juice, amazing pastries and breads, eggs, meats, yogurts, fresh fruit, vegetables, cheeses, and charcuterie. The service throughout the resort was excellent. We also ate dinner at the resort one evening. The calamari was some of the best we had during our trip, but unfortunately most of our entrées seemed overcooked. My fish and my daughter’s squid were both almost rubbery. Overall, the resort is beautiful, relaxing, and very comfortable, especially for families needing more space. However, if I returned to the Algarve, I might choose to stay in Carvoeiro or another location that feels less isolated. The resort itself is fairly secluded, which may be perfect for some travelers but was a little quieter and farther removed than we expected.

Wir haben dort nicht gewohnt, aber Freunde, die wir besucht haben. Das Appartement war riesig, mit Küche, sehr schön aufgeteilt. Es gab eine Reinigung zwischendurch und man konnte auch frühstücken gehen (25€pro Person). Der Weg zum Strand war sehr kurz, also ein sehr guter Standort.

Great staff being friendly & so helpful. They made a great recommendation for a restaurant, for a celebration of our friends anniversary. The bar on 1st floor also had a wonderful staff too. We would go back there,if we make a trip back to Portugal. You won't be disappointed.
