Let's start with the conclusion: only stay here if you absolutely have to and cannot find another place in the area. The reception was somewhere between indifference and outright rudeness. The room was stuffy, and most of the time I had to leave the balcony door open just to get some fresh air. The Wi-Fi router was mounted right next to the headboard, and its indicator lights made it difficult to sleep. There was not even a single power outlet available for charging a phone or any other device. There were no coffee-making facilities in the room, and no coffee was available anywhere in the hotel before 8:00 a.m. I was required to pay for my reservation at check-in, but the following day my account was charged again, apparently by the head office or reservation center. When I informed the lady at reception that I had been charged twice, she simply refused to take responsibility and handed me a piece of paper with an email address, telling me to deal with it in writing. This was a highly questionable experience, unlike anything I have encountered at any hotel or anywhere else. And by the way, I stayed at a four-star hotel in Madeira during the same trip, so I have a basis for comparison. This hotel does not even deserve a three-star rating

Kleine tuin had leuk kunnen zijn als er fatsoenlijke stoelen in zouden staan, jammer, gemiste kans. Verder is het hotel OK, prima ontbijt, schone kamers. Douchen in het ligbad met douchegordijn, beetje uit de tijd. Waar het hotel niets aan kon doen maar wat wel irritant was: de hele dag tettert er muziek uit een speaker van de plaatselijke kerk. Dit galmt over het hele dorp! Komt nog bij dat je rond 20:00 door de pastoor getrakteerd wordt op een komplete preek door diezelfde speaker. En als klap op de vuurpijl: zwaar knalvuurwerk om de paar uur soms tot 24:00. Dit was de héle week. Ik weet niet of dit alleen de laatste weken van juli is of dat dit normaal is in dit dorp.

nous avons séjourné 10 jours dans cet hôtel, et tout d’abord, selon moi, les photos sur le site ne rendent pas justice à l’endroit que j’ai trouvé beaucoup plus joli dans la vraie vie, et un cadre à couper le souffle. Certains se plaignent que les chambres soient « vieillottes », mais je trouve cette décoration bien plus charmante et de goût que les hôtels tout blancs et aseptisés dit « modernes ». Le seul bémol de la chambre était la lumière de salle de bain qui était un peu trop faible mais rien de grave. tout était propre et bien entretenu. Petit déjeuner bon et varié. Seul bémols de l’hôtel : la nourriture à la carte n’est pas fameuse (seulement pour dépanner), et le personnel est très visiblement en sous effectif, bien qu’ils aient été en majeure partie d’une grande aide et gentillesse, il est facile de remarquer à quel point la partie service est délaissée. Presque jamais personne au bar, la personne de la réception doit se charger des boissons 8 fois sur 10. service lent en général ce qui n’est pas de la faute des employés mais du fait que parfois une seule personne devait s’occuper de tout ! ce n’est pas normal pour un 4 étoiles. Un merci tout particulier au jeune homme et à la dame plus âgée de la réception, ainsi qu’au serveur originaire d’afrique du sud qui ont été d’une gentillesse remarquable tout le long de notre séjour et qui se sont surpassés pour nous faire vivre une bonne expérience :)

Nous avons beaucoup apprécié cette semaine passée à Estalagem do Vale. Emplacement idéal sur l'île de Madère, au calme et près de tout en voiture. Chambres avec beaucoup de charme. Personnel adorable. Piscine au top. Restaurant très pratique. Bref nous recommandons

We stayed at this hotel with our children in two different rooms, and the experience fell significantly below what is expected from a 4-star property. Neither room had a kettle, meaning no access to basic in-room tea or coffee — a standard amenity in hotels of this category. More concerning was the presence of visible mold in both rooms. Our eldest daughter experienced an allergic reaction as a direct result. Although the hotel relocated us after a few nights, the replacement rooms also had mold on the walls and ceilings. This indicates a systemic issue rather than an isolated incident, and raises serious concerns about hygiene and health standards. Guests are provided with a single 1.5L bottle of water upon arrival, with no daily replenishment. This level of service does not align with what most would reasonably expect from a 4-star hotel. Breakfast selection was minimal and lacked variety — no fish options at all, and only one type of ham/meat and cheese. Dinner was equally underwhelming, offering just two choices, neither of which stood out in quality or taste. The pool area is enclosed in glass, limiting the overall experience, and the water temperature was approximately 18°C — too cold for comfortable use. The setup also makes it difficult to enjoy sunlight or relax properly, even in good weather. Overall, while the hotel is marketed as a 4-star property, the actual experience is much closer to a 3-star standard at best. Based on our stay, there are clear gaps in maintenance, service, and overall guest experience that need to be addressed.

Nice and well-kept hotel, rooms are tidy, personnel are friendly. The breakfast was really good. It is located in the middle of the village, so nothing spectacular, but area is quiet. I would say it is not great value for money, but a good place overall.
