We received a very warm welcome upon arrival and immediately felt at home. When we were shown our room, I was a little disappointed. The hotel itself is beautiful, but the rooms are somewhat dated and could use some refurbishment in places, especially considering the price you pay to stay here. We traveled extensively around Sri Lanka and, for less money, we sometimes stayed in rooms that were better maintained. That said, the room was very spacious, which we really appreciated. The staff were incredibly friendly throughout our stay. The swimming pool was a lovely place to relax. We were also very satisfied with the food. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner were all well presented, delicious, and of a high standard. Well done! The location is another great advantage and is definitely worth recommending. Overall, we would certainly return and would be happy to stay here again.

The Grand Galle, on the surface, is stunning; the location is perfect and the sea views of the Fort are exactly what you want from a trip to Galle. But once you settle in, the "5-star" experience starts to fall apart pretty quickly. Our first room smelled strongly of mould. When we pointed it out, the staff mentioned they’d heard this from other guests and promised to fix it while we were out for dinner. We came back late that night to a room that smelled (and I’m not exaggerating) exactly like the air fresheners you find in a gents' urinal. It was unbearably strong, so we checked the AC unit and found they’d just stuffed air fresheners inside to mask the smell of mould. We moved to a second room which was better, but it lacked basic amenities...There were no hangers and nowhere to actually put our clothes, yet there is a large desk like surface which could easily be turned into drawers. The only mirror was on the bathroom vanity, which makes getting ready a mission. Twice, we came back from a day at the pool to a clean room, but with no towels. It’s such a basic thing, but having to call down and wait for towels every day is exhausting when you’re paying for a premium stay. There was some attempt at service recovery, but it felt reactive rather than proactive. The service here is just inconsistent. In a true 5-star hotel, you shouldn't have to "work" this hard as a guest to get the basics right. This was supposed to be our luxury treat at the end of our trip around Sri Lanka, and it's definitely missed the mark.

Date of stay: 28th February 2026 (1 night) We stayed at Le Grande Galle for one night as part of a 10-day tour of the south of Sri Lanka. Our room was really great and large, overlooking the sea. It featured a very good bathroom, and we particularly loved having a Japanese toilet. The food was very good throughout our stay. We had a Sri Lankan BBQ for dinner, and there was lots of choice for breakfast, including gluten-free bread which was greatly appreciated. Overall, the service was very good and polite. The restaurant staff seemed a little preoccupied with other guests at times, but apart from that, everything was alright. The location was perfect for our needs: it was only a 10 minute walk to explore the Old Town. Being right on the beach with great views was fantastic. One detail to note for future guests is that check-in is from 2:00 PM. You can arrive at the hotel earlier, but they will not let you use your room beforehand.

Had a fantastic stay at Le Grand Galle. Stunning location with only a few minutes to Galle Forte. Staff were lovely and very accomodating. Special thanks to Vasantha (Food and beverage manager) and the chef (unable to catch his name) who was able to provide us an amazing crab curry 🦀 We will definitely be back here!

Thank you Le Grand for scrumptious masterpiece you made for our wedding. Both the taste and the design of the cake hit the sweets spot of every guest. The cake had to stand the heat as an outdoor function, low in sugar and provide the glamour of a wedding cake. Thank you for addressing all our needs and feedback exactly as we requested. You delivered beyond our expectations. Highly recommended.

We had a wonderful stay at Le Grand Galle. Everything was excellent from check-in to check-out. The staff were genuinely warm, welcoming, and attentive throughout our stay. The hotel was spotless, the swimming pool was lovely, and our sea-view room offered a beautiful view of the ocean. The restaurant served a wide variety of dishes, including plenty of delicious options that were not overly spicy, which we really appreciated. A very special thanks to Isham for his impeccable room service and professionalism. He made our stay even more enjoyable. We would happily stay here again and highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Galle.
