Fantastic hotel to stay. Especially, the kids’ water play area and swimming pool are very attractive. The rooms are clean and spacious. Anyone can stay for a couple of days and enjoy a fresh and relaxing experience.

I recently stayed at Wattura Resort and Spa, and overall it was an excellent experience from start to finish. The location is truly breathtaking — nestled between the golden sands of Waikkal Beach and the peaceful Gin Oya River, it’s a perfect place to relax and enjoy some quiet time away from the city. One of the best parts of this resort is the service. The staff here are incredibly friendly, warm, and helpful — always ready to assist with a smile. If you don’t like something on the menu or want a specific dish prepared, they’re happy to accommodate special requests, which made our meals much more enjoyable. Unlike many resorts, they don’t have a buffet, but the food options they offer — whether à la carte or made upon request — are very good and satisfying. The rooms are clean, stylish, and comfortable, and the overall architecture of the property is beautiful, with a calm, modern yet natural vibe. The gym is well-equipped for workouts, and the peaceful surroundings make it easy to unwind.

Wattura is a fantastic place to wind down and relax to the sound of the waves. Set where the river meets the sea, it has a truly unique and peaceful setting that makes it feel like a little sanctuary surrounded by nature. The resort is wonderfully quiet and intimate. We stayed in our own villa with a private garden. The upper floor was particularly beautiful, with a very comfortable bed, a huge bathroom and a lovely wooden deck with a swing — a perfect place to relax. Our private pool was quite small, and given the size of the garden, I personally would have loved a larger pool and an additional terrace area. We ended up spending more time at the main pool, which is spacious and beautiful. Our sea view was also partially obstructed by trees, although this varies from villa to villa. One area that could really use some attention is the beach. The landscape itself is magnificent, but if you walk a little further along the shore, there are unfortunately quite a few plastic bottles and other pieces of rubbish. It is such a beautiful natural environment that keeping the beach cleaner would make a real difference. There is one restaurant at the resort, with a very good selection, including fantastic options for children. Everything we ate was carefully prepared. We particularly enjoyed the weekend buffet, which was excellent. We did experience a very long wait for one of our dishes at lunch — around an hour — but the team handled it graciously and removed the dish from our bill, which we appreciated. There is also a lovely kids’ club. The only downside for us was that parents are required to stay with their children. It would be wonderful if supervised childcare could be offered, even for a couple of hours, so parents could enjoy some quiet time at the pool or spa while the children play. Finally, a very special thank you to our butler, Tharaka, who was wonderful throughout our stay. Always smiling, kind and incredibly helpful, he took care of everything for us — from arranging vans and laundry to organizing a boat trip on the river — and was always there to assist us at the restaurant as well. He really helped make our stay easy and enjoyable. Overall, Wattura is a beautiful and very peaceful retreat in an exceptional natural setting. With a few small improvements, it could be truly outstanding.

Very poor experience. The rooms were in terrible condition, and the air conditioning was not working. We only managed because there was a fan. The telephones in the rooms were also out of order. The food was disappointing - very dry and lacking quality. Overall, we were 98% disappointed with our stay. This place is definitely not worth the price you pay, and it does not live up to the reputation it presents to the world. I would give it 0/10 for the experience. Please reconsider before booking or visiting.

Best hotel we have ever visited in Sri Lanka. Yasintha did our booking.We stayed 2 nights here and got 4 villas, beautiful villas with 5 star facilities. Nothing to complain. The staff were super good, provided us everything what we asked for. Speicial thanks goes to praveen. He did an amazing job throughout out stay and want to mention Lehan also. He is super good too,very helpful. The Food was super delicious and had so much varieties and if you are craving for something they will definitely supply it to you. For the kids they have so many things to do here.Finally I can recommend everyone this place without any hesitation to come and enjoy every second of your vacation . Hope to come again and again ❤️

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here over Easter 2026. Special thanks to our butler Praveen who made certain we were looked after and was on hand at any time of day and always with a smile. The villa was lovely and our kids enjoyed the plunge pool and kids slides and play area. New Years celebrations in Sri Lanka occurred while we were here too which was lovely to celebrate with the staff. The menu was very good and changed every day. The beach is nice although there are nicer beaches in Sri Lanka.
