ECSMit5/5 · 2026-03We had an exceptional 8 day stay at Kahanda Kanda. The location of the hotel is incredible. Our villa (Kadju) had a view of the forest from the canopy level and we were treated daily to sightings of Langur monkeys, hornbills, parakeets, humming birds, peacocks and and array of other beautiful birds and lizards. None of these come too close or are a bother. They just make for spectacular viewing and entertainment so be sure to bring a camera and binoculars. The villa itself was amazing. It’s huge and well furnished with quality items and a real feeling of a bygone era with all the romance of the location to make you feel you are a million miles from anywhere. The shower, bed and facilities were outstanding and the air-con was efficient and hassle-free. We were extremely comfortable. We had an infinity pool which was perfect for cooling down and flapping around! The staff are brilliant. One of the real highlights we would say. Nothing is too much for them and they are keen to help. I needed a lot of information about the resort before we booked as I have a disability and some issues with steps. The reservation manager Aruna, made me videos and answered all my questions in details and at speed. It’s why we booked in the end. There are about 20-30 steps up to the reception on arrival which I found to be fine. There is a handrail to help and the staff will always help too. Our villa (Kadju) was near reception and the dining/pool area but was very separate from it so it was very quiet, not that it matters as the whole estate is quiet. There were no steps at all from the villa to the dining and reception area so it was perfect for me. There are a number of villas near the reception/dining area also without steps, so there is a good choice for those avoiding mobility difficulties. The food was exceptional. Set menu for three courses and about four options per course each day. There is also a la carte but we found that the set menu offered great choice even for 8 nights! We never tired of it and there was no significant repetition, if at all, from memory. Great wines and a huge range of cocktails and mocktails too. We were really surprised with how good the food was and we went with the belief the food was of a high standard. Compliments to the chef! We had a day trip to Galle and Galle Fort which we would highly recommend. Our tuk-tuk driver was happy to show us other places along the way too and it only cost about £10 in total (ex tip which we added). There are a wide range of other excursions offered too… from whale watching trips, to a boat outing on the nearby lake to many other smaller and less intense trips to stimulate the senses! Overall this was a real treat and we have travelled extensively throughout Asia for 30 years and this was an absolute gem. We will return for certain.
Zane C3/5 · 2026-02We stayed at this hotel for the last two days of our trip to Sri Lanka, so we wanted to choose something special. The location, the hotel, and the villas was beautiful—surrounded by nature, with clean rooms and a well-maintained environment—but not more special than other high-level hotels. We were very disappointed when we realized, and then confirmed, that we had paid double the actual price of our hotel was and that our payment did not include an all-inclusive package. We therefore asked to cancel our reservation, but we were told it was not possible. We then asked for a discount or at least for one dinner or lunch to be included in our stay, just to feel a bit better about the situation. Unfortunately, the manager talked at length without offering any positive solution. In the end, we stayed at the hotel for two days, paying double the price, with nothing included. One day we skipped dinner, the next day we skipped lunch, and we did not receive any discount or even a small gesture of goodwill upon departure. This situation made us feel misled and uncomfortable for even having to ask for something, and also disappointed with ourselves for having paid so much for an early reservation during the low season, only to have to pay separately for everything again. For these reasons, we will not return to this hotel. Unfortunately, we left Sri Lanka with negative emotions.
IamAkila1/5 · 2026-02My partner and I stayed in the Honeymoon Villa Dubu as I wanted to surprise her on her birthday. My review for anyone wanting to check the resort out is as follows: Pros: 1. The location is nice. 2. Room is spacious and lovely. 3. Staff were alright. Friendly (however, this is expected and nothing special, as they state that it's a "luxury" experience at their most expensive villa. But, basic human empathy and decency is expected regardless of the price and rating) Cons: 1. Food is below average. Prices are way too high for what the food entails. The Chef needs to vamp up flavour, dish variety and reduce the prices of the food drastically if the Chef plans on continuing the current standards of the food. The dinner choices for the half board option were abysmal. My partner and I were shocked at how rubbery and old the chicken and fish fillet were. The Food and Beverage Manager was notified of this issue and he apologised as well for it. In addition, the western breakfast option entails basic fried veggies, which the kitchen forgot to send and the waiters had no clue that this was a required dish in a western breakfast. The Food and Beverage Manager was shocked that the whole fish wasn't served to both my partner and myself. They sent the balance portion of the breakfast 15 mins later, as such the remainder of the food went cold, we had to eat the eggs and bacon first, 20 mins later the mushrooms and tomatoes were served. Shocking how the waiters have no clue what the dishes are and what the dishes are supposed to encompass as a meal. 2. The washrooms were dirty and infested with frogs, ants, dead bugs, and spiders (due to a hole in the door). The Villa houses two washrooms, both were infested with dead animals. We frankly had to just use the shower instead of the Bath Tubs in both washrooms. 3. The pool was DISGUSTING! Dead insects, tree sap, leaves and animal feces were some of the occupants in the pool. The fact that the staff had not cleaned the pool before we checked in was utterly agitating. We had to notify the staff of the pool being dirty, this confirms that it wasn't checked at all prior to the check in (btw, we checked in around 4pm). Then the Duty Manager sent the pool cleaners the next morning (the check out day). The rationale of keeping the pool uncovered is that they rather leave it open (even when there are no guests). Knowing that there are so many trees around and monkeys climbing trees which will definitely contaminate the pool and also require the staff to constantly clean the pool (which they don't do at all until told so). My partner and I were looking forward to this private pool overlooking a lovely view but instead had only 30 mins of pool time after they cleaned it the day of the checkout at 10.45am. 4. The location is lovely but there's so much of dead space which has not been utilised and it's saddening to see a poorly designed plan for such a beautiful location. I write this review for any potential customers that wants a 5 star private resort experience. This location charges you an exorbitant amount of money that a basic villa would provide as well. As a person that has experienced Malabar Hill and one other private villa resort, I can confirm that Kahanda Kanda was well below average. This resort does not even stand amongst the most average villas in Sri Lanka for the price they charge. As such, I suggest any viewer of this review to look elsewhere as they are plenty of locations that will give you this "5 star" experience at a lower cost with many in depth extremities that will garner you an experience your partner and yourself will never forget. I humbly urge the management of Kahanda Kanda to reduce their booking prices and FnB prices as well if they are to continue their current standards. Consequently, it's safe to say at their current state, my partner and I will never return. But if an overhaul is to come, then my partner and I wish you, all the very best. I hope you deliver what you promise to all your customers in the future.
Richard Axnick5/5 · 2026-01A truly relaxing stay in a stunning setting. The property is beautiful and perfectly designed for switching off and enjoying the surroundings. What really made the experience special was the warmth and attentiveness of the staff — especially the housekeeping team led by Rohan, whose care and attention to detail were exceptional. A place that makes you feel genuinely looked after from start to finish.
Devan Gullage5/5 · 2025-11This was an amazing stay! The views were so beautiful, the rooms were amazing, and the staff were so wonderful and accommodating. It was just a 30 minute ride to the fort which the resort had set up for us. Service here was amazing, they brought drinks to our private pool, checked in about meals with us, and stayed up to date on our day to day plans to give us the best experience. The food here was amazing as well, plenty of options for adventurous eaters or for non adventurers. My wife and I would recommend this resort to anyone who plans to visit Sri Lanka, it was so peaceful and located in a perfect place to take a couple of day trips from!
Judi Lambourne5/5 · 2025-09We absolutely loved our stay! We knew it would be good and it was even better. It was a great idea to skip Colombo and head from the airport straight KK. The setting is gorgeous and tranquil. The open air reception/bar and dining lovely. The staff were so obliging, could not have been better. Kadju was such a fab room and the view from the infinity pool stunning. The wildlife. Everything. It is secluded and a tuktuk ride to get anywhere else. We went into Galle one day, so relieved we stayed at KK and not there.
