Gillieru Hotel

I have been coming to Lido @ Gillieru regularly for around four years. I always buy something, sit by the sea, mind my own business. Apparently, on my last visit, two chairs became a national emergency. We bought two Americanos and moved two chairs a few metres away from the tables so we could sit in the shade, as I have seen people do countless times before. Then some random man I had never seen in my life came over, did not introduce himself, and said: “Sorry guys, I need to take them.” I told him we were customers too and showed him the drinks. He said the chairs needed to stay at the tables. At this point I still had absolutely no idea who this man was, so I said, “Wait, let me speak with the guys.” His answer: “No need, I am the owner.” Ah. Excellent. Mystery solved. Obviously if you had introduced yourself and simply said, “Guys, sorry, we need to keep the chairs with the tables,” I would have said okay and this entire Shakespearean tragedy involving two chairs would have ended in 10 seconds. Instead, apparently owning a hotel and restaurant means spending your Saturday personally patrolling the coastline to make sure no paying customer moves a chair three metres into the shade. Honestly, if this is the biggest problem demanding your personal attention on a Saturday, congratulations. You have defeated life. We moved somewhere else because he killed the mood for both of us. A little later I watched him do exactly the same thing to an older Maltese group, so at least the chair enforcement policy appears to be wonderfully non-discriminatory. Four years of coming here regularly. Never had an issue before. I genuinely hope the chairs enjoyed being safely reunited with their tables.

Very well served and highly recommend. A special thank you to the Operations Manager Vanessa, for her exceptional service. She is incredibly helpful, genuinely cares about guests, knows how to make everyone feel welcome, and always takes the time to listen and ensure everyone is comfortable. A big thank you as well to the barman near the pool area, who provided us with excellent service throughout the day. He was friendly, attentive, and made sure we were well looked after. The food at the restaurant was also excellent and made our day even more enjoyable. A big well done to the entire team for providing such outstanding service. Thank you all for making our visit so memorable. We always have a fantastic time and look forward to coming back!

I suggest this hotel, it is clean and the staff is attentive. Top point of this hotel is the perfect location, it is just 5 minutes walk to the port where you can catch the ferry for Gozo or Sliema, also you can take one of the boats that takes you to Comino and blue lagoon. There is an area just few steps away from the port, waterfront, where you can relax under the sun and swim, just in front of the steps there is a small coffee shop with lovely iced coffee, drinks and snacks to load for your boat trip or relax in the waterfront.

The best hotel to stay in Malta! Cheapest price, very good and big breakfast, everything close - by the harbour for boat trips, swimming area right next to hotel, pool, nice helpful staff, nice equipped rooms. all you need…

En bord de mer il fait frais la vue est magnifique. Notre chambre ne donnait hélas pas côté mer mais confortable Le personnel est au petit soin. Nous avons passé un excellent séjour. Et que dire de la piscine avec vue mer sinon que c est un vrai bonheur

We were moved here 24 hours before arriving in Malta by our travel agent. The staff at the Gillieru were very accommodating and helpful on arrival and with a room upgrade request for a small fee. The hotel is in a nice location over the harbour, especially the view from the attached restaurant where we had breakfast. Thank you for a pleasant stay.
