Velassaru is a little Maldivian gem, conveniently located just around 25 minutes by speedboat from Malé Airport. From the moment we arrived, we received a superb welcome and immediately felt well looked after. We stayed in a Water Villa, and it was simply an outstanding and unforgettable experience, something we would recommend to everyone at least once in their life! The villa was spacious, beautifully designed and equipped with every comfort we could possibly need. Having direct access to the sea allowed us to relax and enjoy every moment of our holiday to the fullest. But perhaps the most unforgettable moment was waking up in the morning, opening the curtains and looking through the huge glass windows onto an endless expanse of crystal-clear turquoise water, full of fish of every kind. The view is simply priceless! We also treated ourselves to a spa experience and the overwater setting made it even more special. We felt like queens from start to finish! The body massage and facial treatment were both absolutely impressive and definitely among the highlights of our stay. Velassaru gave us the perfect combination of comfort, relaxation and breathtaking natural beauty. An unforgettable stay that we would wholeheartedly recommend!

We found Niva Velassaru completely by accident after a very long and stressful day of switching resorts and what an amazing surprise it turned out to be! We arrived back in Malé at around 16:30 with no accommodation booked and were stressed about finding a resort that could still arrange a transfer that afternoon/evening. By pure chance, we met a tour guide who pointed us towards the Niva Velassaru airport desk. There we met Adam, who was absolutely wonderful. He quickly put us in touch with reservations, a rate was arranged, and before we knew it we were being escorted to their airport lounge. After some complimentary refreshments, we were on our way to the resort in a lovely, comfortable speedboat. Considering how stressful our day had been up until that point, the whole experience was such a relief. And then we arrived… Niva Velassaru is STUNNING! The food deserves its own five-star review. Everything we had was delicious and there was a fantastic variety. You definitely won't go hungry here! The one area I think could be improved is the clarity around rates, inclusions and exclusions. It seems unnecessarily complicated, especially with the all-inclusive package not necessarily meaning everything is included. For example, soft drinks could be included at breakfast but not at dinner, which we found quite bizarre. It would be much better if the packages and inclusions were simplified and made clearer. There's also a really lovely gift shop on the property, which is definitely worth visiting. After staying here, I completely understand why so many reviewers say they keep returning. You really do get what you pay for. Niva Velassaru was completely unplanned, but ended up being one of the best surprises of our trip to the Maldives. Sometimes the places you find by accident turn out to be the ones you're happiest you found! ❤️

We went to the Maldives and Velassaru as it was my dream destination for many years, and we thought it would be the perfect location to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. It is so hard to choose a hotel in the Maldives but Velassaru was just a dream! The room, the service, the staff, the food, the activities offered, the care of the grounds, everything was perfect! Also, the transfer by boat to and from the airport was seamless. I have to say that we felt like VIPS during our entire stay! So much so, that we are already planning to go back for our 30th anniversary!

Pre-book two nights in different room categories (like splitting time between a beach villa and an overwater bungalow) to truly experience the resort's different vibes. Since the staff is so accommodating, the room transition is completely effortless.

Absolutely stunning experience. This is our fourth stay in the Maldives over the years, and this resort has truly impressed us. It is located just 25 minutes by speedboat from Male — close enough for an easy transfer, yet far enough away to still feel peaceful and idyllic. You can see a few cranes and part of the shipyard far in the distance on the right side of the atoll, but it does not affect the overall atmosphere. We are staying in a beach villa with a private swimming pool and direct access to the beach, which feels incredibly luxurious and relaxing. The food is exceptional, and if you choose the all-inclusive option, you definitely will not be disappointed. The à la carte selection across the three restaurants is excellent and feels very high-end. We are visiting during the rainy season, so there has not been a huge amount of sunshine, but the weather is still warm and beautiful. One important tip — even on cloudy days, you need plenty of sunscreen, otherwise you can burn very quickly. The resort also has a very well-equipped gym and a lovely spa. However, spa prices are extremely high, so this time we decided to skip the treatments and simply enjoy the rest of the facilities and the beautiful surroundings.

March 2026 I recently had the pleasure of staying at this resort with my family for the second time and I must say that the entire experience was truly exceptional. The property distinguishes itself through the outstanding professionalism of its staff, who consistently demonstrate attentiveness, discretion, and a genuine commitment to guest satisfaction. The culinary offering is of the highest standard, with an excellent selection of different cuisine options with fresh ingredients and presented with great care. A particularly special mention is deserved for the Italian chef Alessandro, whose remarkable kindness, professionalism, dedication on the dining experience to an exceptional level. His passion and attention to detail made our dining experience amazing. I would highly recommend this resort to anyone seeking a refined and memorable stay defined by quality and impeccable service.
